I've been communting on a mountain bike with slicks for the last 6 months using a rucksack to cayy all my bits for work. At the weekend I fitted a rack and some panniers, first trip out today and so much easier. I actually felt that I could cycle faster and wasn't bothered at all by the panniers or the weight. No more rucksacks for me :)

Cut 4 minutes off the commute so I'm pleased, wonder how fast i can get home tonight ?

I know brilliant aren't they? Fitted panniers haven't looked back. No more sweaty backs, no more back aches tins digging into my spine. Safer too, COG lower, less likely to tip, safer braking (weight is not on you) safer if you crash.

If you need to carry a lot of weight, I'd get trailer too, just waiting on my wiggle order
:-( taking ages. Panniers are good upto a point, I'd say no more than 15-20kgs. After that the bike feels very ropey.

Love my lidl panniers, use them for work as carrying all that weight and sorting through them at every drop off was getting on my wick. Wouldn't be without them :D

No panniers in the latest Lidl bike offerings (which is a pain as mine just started to rip!)

www.lidl.co.uk click on cycling offers, they do biking stuff about every 6 months, in store until sold then nothing until the next time.

Been a fan of Panniers ever since I, err, got some. Originally from Xmas Staff Raffle, then I got a pair of Arkels when I left as leaving present.
A very civilised way to transport 'stuff', although it's now an unsprung weight it's never really noticable until you come to maneuver the bike in/out of house/bike park etc. If only on the rear, good for wheelies too :)

I've carried insane weights with them; our old tandem weighed in at 58lbs (after a diet) but when fitted with front and rear panniers we achieved over 140lbs. Some feat as the stoker was Mrs Meanie who weighs a little over 105lbs

    Gotta love paniiers.

As others have stated it is a lot more comfortable and you can carry more .
