Going tubeless advice

Hi guys just bought myself shimano mt65 wheels these are UST rims, i take it if using non UST tyres that i will have to use some sort of sealant, also if i decide to buy some UST tyres would i still use some sealant. Also what is the best sealant i can use. Thanks.

If using UST tyres then you don't need sealant but it helps to seal any puncture you may get.

If using standard tyres then yes you will need sealant as they can be porous and the sealant helps to make them air tight and seal the bead too. But it is not guaranteed to work so results and reliability may vary.

I use Stans sealant, its one of the most popular brands and works fine for me.

I have 2 sets of tubeless wheels.

1) Is Shimano XT UST wheelset. I have used Maxis UST tyres, Schwalbe UST tyres and Specialized 2bliss (tubeless ready) tyres. All worked fine with no problems.

2) Is a Superstar wheelset built using Stan's Crest rims. I've used Speciliazed 2bliss tyres and normal Maxis tyres on these. All worked fine with no problems.

The Stans bead lock system is different to UST. I use it with normal Maxis tyres with no issues. Don't know if the same will work on UST rims? I haven't tried it or researched about it.

I also always use sealant to help seal punctures so far I've only had 1 puncture in the sidewall of the tyre that didn;t seal. that was the only time the tyre has deflated on me.

have a search on the forum there have been loads of past threads. With people stating which combinations worked well and which didn't.
