How comes I can keep up with the chaingang, and with the fast group on Saturday rides, but can't hit the speeds they do solo. I think I'm not trying hard enough, Over 30 miles, the hardest I've ever pushed solo is around 70% of max heart rate, should/could I push faster and if so how. Should i do intervals or what??????

Right now I have exams so can only get out once a week, twice at a push, what's the best way to maintain my curent fitness. This is about 2.5hrs-5hrs

Thx in advance.

if drafting you do approx 70% of the work of the person in front of you.

Sounds like you may have got your MHR calculation wrong. It does sound like twice a week will be limiting your progress though.

A couple of short interval sessions (even on the turbo) during the week and a big one at the weekend should get you over the plateau.

70% of your max ? Thats either a wrong maximum - or you're really slacking.

My (tested) max is 189 so 70% of that would only be 132bpm.

    When I TT I'm over 170 bpm.

Even good steady riding I'd be into the 150s.

I cant believe you can only ride once a week when revising. How can your brain take in so much ?

Yup, something iffy going on here, either your MHR setting is way out of whack, or you just aren't pushing hard enough.

I avg over 92% MHR in a TT
