Is My Shifter Fubar'd ?

My right hand x9 shifter (its lasted 4years trouble free) developed an issue tonight.

I push the big silver lever to shift down, it changes gear fine and as normal but the lever does not spring back on its own.

I flick it back, there's a very faint click, and its back in position, there's no play in it at all.

I've taken the top cover off, can't see anything untoward going on. Haven't looked from the bottom yet.

Is it screwed up? fixable?

Quick squirt of gt85 into the gap around the lever, then if that doesnt work try slackening off the bolt an eighth of a turn. Else it may be FUBAR.

Right, just been out to blast it with GT85,

Took the top cover off too and gave everything a good blast.

    It's made no difference whatsoever

Had the same problem with some Retro Shimano Deore LX shifters, I bought on ebay, The seller said there was a problem so I got them very cheap.

It's just muck and grease. strip them down, clean and lube them and they'll be good as new.

Well I've taken the shifter apart, using this guide

Great :) got all the parts too

    Started rebuilding, using this guide

The first picture (of the lever) has a V shaped spring. Is this important? I'm missing it.

Its such a frustrating job to rebuild it.
