Right, here goes - pumps seem to have changed a bit since the last time I needed one (approx 1977!!) and as my tyres are getting soft I invested in one of these yesterday

I'm buggered if I can get any air in the tyres though! Strangely there are no instructions with it, I guess they assume everyone knows how to use it! There is a lever on top of the bit that goes on the valve, when it's 'up' it wont accept the valve into it and if I pull it up after putting the valve in then the pump wont move after a couple of strokes???

Presta valves can sometimes stick. Before you put the pump over the valve push the top of the valve down to make sure it's free.

Sometimes you have to do this more than once but I have never had to let all of the air out of the tyres before it started to work.

I find that different inner valves are better than others. For best results let all of the air out first.
