** bump ** if you do want to enter the event this year (2013), the deadline is next week

It looks good but I think theres a typo - somehow you've foolishly put 600k

The overall elevation gain is zero however, the start and the finish are at the same level

It was a lovely ride. I would have finished long before 1am, but my front light crapped out at Talybont so I limped to Usk in the dark where I was fortunate enough to find someone who let me sit in their wheel (and very powerful light) until Chepstow.

Looking forward to the BCM. No matter what anyone says, you can totally audax on a Foil! ;)

The BCM was fantastic. Can't wait to do it again next year.

You even have a picture up of me (well the side of my head at least) from the Brevet :)

Write up of my experiences (it was awesome):

Grill - you passed me somewhere near Builth (unless there was someone else on a Foil!) - you were in a fast group of three, otherwise I would have said hello! I assume from the speed you were travelling, you finished in a decent time?

Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!

    Yup, that was me :)
I finished just after 4pm. I was originally planning to ride straight through, but it was nice to get my head down for a few hours at Kings.

Brilliant ride, and the weather was perfect.

Excellent write up - really enjoyed that - why has nobody invented the 'snooze bike' haha

Out of interest what are the dull reasons why you only get 40hrs to complete the ride.

OK - under Audax UK regulations you get the total distance of the ride (in terms of the shortest distance between controls) divided by 15kph.

So the shortest distance between controls on the BCM is 619km - so, you should get 41 and a bit hours to do the ride.

BUT, the BCM is run under BRM rules (the international body) rather than Audax UK rules. This doesn't give any extra time for over-distance - so you get 40 hours to ride a 600, no matter if it is 605km or 630km distance. It means your results are recorded in a dusty tome somewhere in Paris (and can then be used for qualifying for certain awards etc.)

Most rides, outside of a PBP year, are run under AUK rules - but some are always BRM.

Audax does have some weird and wonderful rules!

but turns out that most people with 400km in their legs and 3 hours of sleep are indeed willing to wait for bacon!

Here is another writeup, from the point of view of someone feeding the riders at the over night stop. Really gives a feel of what it's like
