Roads around Northumberland Avenue were also closed while a bag was destroyed in a controlled explosion. The roads have now reopened.

Police said the bag was no longer deemed suspicious. :?:

You don't know what they know.

For all we know this could be very similar to something they might be expecting...

    They know nothing. Absolutely nothing.

(I'm not saying they should ... it's nearly impossible, but wish they'd stop pretending they do)

Hang on, we don't know that they might know that it's almost kind of like a thing they thought might happen, at some point, somewhere.

Sounds like they don't know what they know either.

I think most things cease to be suspicious once they've been "destroyed in a controlled explosion"

But if you check the front page of news.bbc.co.uk at this moment, it says

"BREAKING NEWS: Bomb threat warning received relating to central London, Metropolitan Police say, but with no specific location or time"

    Perhaps they do?

    Bomb warning received in London

"A police statement said officers have been advised to be highly vigilant."

Quite pleased about that, I did think for moment that having received a warning they would simply make a cup of tea and read the paper.

I went past that this morning. The Mall was closed at the Buck Palace end and there were police cars and a cordon. I thought it must have been an accident TBH.

They drink coffee instead - this makes them highly vigilant

    Ahh, maybe.
Doesn't this mean it's the IRA (or whatever the latest version is)?

I was at Imperial in the heart of Embassy Land in the late 80's, it used to be almost weekly for bomb threats for a while.

Asked a policeman this morning what was going on (he was on a motorbike).

He said "There is an incident. I can't (as in won't) tell you more than that".

Have a feeling he meant: "There is an incident. I can't (as in don't know what on earth is going on) tell you more than that" !
