On a recent visit to Coed y Brenin while having a great time riding the Beast. I was going down a rocky bit when my left hand completely cramped up, I pulled off the trail and had to individually prise my fingers straight. I ride a hardtail with 100mm travel and was wearing padded gloves at the time.

Has anyone had a similar experience and any suggestions for preventing this from happening in the future?

Ta v.much.

that must have been annoying, maybe do some stretching hand exercises and warm up your arms before going out riding. i have had a weird expereince where my hands have randomly jerked abit after riding, i know its not the same thing but in your case maybe you were braking harder than you realised and that caused it?

It might also be the positioning and reach of your brake levers. Try to set them so that your fingers are barely extended when covering the brakes.

Could be lack of hydration or any of the above suggestions. Worth buying a powerball to strengthen hands/wrists/forearms....

i cant work out those powerball things, cant seem to get enough speed or a good enough flick of the wrist to get them to rotate

Practise and technique man, get it once and your there....Use the provided strnig to start you off and rotate slowly anti clockwise gradually building momentum. Practise, you'll get it dialled then you can ditch the string and spin it without thought....Youtube for tips.

Are we talking powerballs or limes here?

    WARNING!!

NEVER insert a spining powerball, whether the string is attached or not! Acidity is nothing by comparison....

You could try running some Specialized Enduro lock on grips, double density vibration absorbing things, i run them and theyre excellent.
