Shimano 105 multi-shifting

I'm a converted MTB'er and bought a 2nd hand road bike 2 weeks ago, 2009 Spesh Allez Elite with 105, and I find I need to double shift a lot - presumably coz of the compact chainset.
Though the left shifter lets me do multi clicks with one press to move onto the small ring, the right will only click once per press, meaning I have to pump it repeatedly down the cassette at the same time as moving from big to small at the front which I find really annoying for some reason - even though it's the same as the SLX on my MTB. I assume this isn't a fault with my bike.
Are all mid range road shifters the same or is one press multi-upshifting available on Campag, SRAM or Ultegra?

All SRAM and Shimano have one-click shifts to smaller cogs at the back.

Campag varies year-to-year. I know with older Veloce you can do multiple shifts with the thumb button, but the current stuff only does one click. I think now it's only on the higher-end shifters.

    This is indeed the case.

I've got 2010 Veloce with Ultra Shift and now it's not a feature on the 2011 shifters.

The left lever double-click is a setting up feature - take a look at the Shimano setting up guide and it explains it.
