Entry-level Dahon rims: crack? old technology?

Noticed both wheels have a hairline across the rims suggesting either a crack or an (older?) technology where the rim is joined from one or more piece that are held together by the tyre pressure. Which one is it?
Thanks.

    is it just the join?

all rims have a join in them some are welded and then machined. some are pinned and some have both.

Join, weld,or seam is normally directly opposite the valve hole.
