Those look very much like the washers used on v-brake blocks for abjustment of toe-in etc.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

You're whinging over something that costs just over a fiver with postage?
MTFU, dig into your wallet and buy them, FFS

TBH never broken any of the Avid conical washers, I suggest you invest in a torque wrench

if you are breaking them you are over tightening them.

go to your LBS and get some off some V Brakes.

Nope. There's a convex one, and a concave one, which allows you the freedom of cocking up your brake alignment in very interesting ways when compared to their competitor's brakes.

i'll have to have a closer look at my avids when I get home.

cant they be replaced by a load of spacers/washers?

    yes and no.

they are needed to give the correct spacing for the calliper.

They could yes, as long as the resulting depth of the washers/spacers is the same as the funky washers you get with Avids. Which is actually quite substantial. From memory, I reckon it's a good 5 or 6mm. Which is a lot of washers!
  • Could probably get a bag of washers for a quid :D

Not that i'm going to... i'm intrigued by these mystical "funky washers"!

just the same as on your V brakes.
