Did mbuk ride a different gisburn forest to me? I think it's bloody terrible. Slow, boggy and really have to pedal your tits of to get any speed and more importantly boreing. I ve ridden it four times as I only live 20 miles away but now refuse to ride it unless I'm taking my 6 year old son 'proper biking' which everyone else seems to be doing as the place looks like one massive school trip at the weekends.

Confused.

I like it, and it`s getting better all the time. The amount of work that has gone into the place is astonishing.

Sure it`s not as flowy as it could and is very technically challenging in parts, but thats all part of the fun.

Nowt wrong with it now. I road it a few weeks ago and had a ball. All the notorious muddy sections have been sorted, Granted, it was very dry when I went, but its easy to tell that these areas wont get boggy again

Hopefully go there again in a couple of week

Gisburn is great, alot of work has gone into the trails some of the best bits by volunteers.
Some bits dont flow but some do,i think the same can be said for most trail centres.
Its also very much a work in progress, imo it can only get better.
  • To be honest I prefer Gisburn up to Lee Quarry. I suppose everyone has there own personal preference and like different things.

I suppose some like flowy stuff, while others like technical stuff and rocks and stuff. For me Gisburn has a bit of everything, a bit of flowy, a bit of technical, a bit of rock garden etc.

I 'don't think it is fair to criticise ALL of Gisburn as some sections are great, for example Hully Gully. Some sections are a bit of a drag but as said previously this happens at all trail centres. IMHO the top section is the better section, this is because I prefer the Crag and Hully Gully! Keep up the good work, FC and volunteers! :D

I reckon it's pretty tricky to please everyone cos everyone has different riding abilities. Gisburn has some good "hidden" unofficial stuff for those who are very technically competent. I used to find the red route a bit of an awkward pain but when I actually had to aggresively race it recently for an Open 5 event it really came together - speed is your friend on some of those rockier sections and in the lower sections through the trees it can really flow if you keep your speed up.

More repair work is planned on the upper section below the crag so that should flow better again. We're also building another new section on the lower loop to take out another chunk of fire road so that should be better in future as well.

I thought to MBUK article was quite fair to be honest, it is a bit stuttery in places but so id riding the natural stuff. MBR quite liked it as well so it can't be all bad.

Can't say I've seen hordes of kids up there at the weekends though it's good we get a cross section riders on the trails.

Rode it all in the drizel on Friday, even got up the big berms on Hully Gully. It was wet but not muddy, made you work for it in a couple of places. Not every inch of the tail is going to be thrill a minute, it'd be pretty hard work if it was.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

i rode Gisburn last year and really enjoyed it in a man made natural esque kinda way !

To summarise the trails would be very difficult for me and would say instead of reading about it on here GO RIDE !

if you are disapointed in what you ride then go along with a spade and some ideas and muck in and help !

All i can do is praise the area and will be there next weekend riding it in the morning then going to ride stainburn in the Afternoon.
