Scott Genius forks

Looking for advice on what fork would be suitable for my Scott Genius and what the maximum length of fork would be suitable for the Genius, if you think you can help read on, if not thanks for your time anyway and safe riding!
I am fairly new to mtb and have bought a secondhand Scott Genius MC50 ('06).
It had Manitou Black TPC 120mm forks on it origonally with a deore 160mm hydraulic disc. As I said I am new and really like XC but also a bit of more serious technical descents (maybe I am Freeride - all the genres seem to crossover so much!).
I weigh 15 1/5 stone and I have limited strength in my right arm/wrist/hand due to a motorcycling injury so swapped to a Hope M4/203mm disc on the front to give me more power, bite and feel but they seemed to overhwhelm the forks on descents.
I managed to swap some ski kit for a set of 06 Marzocchie FR150's with a 20mm QR axle mavic rim and put these on. They are too long at 150mm travel (about 2 1/2" longer from crown to axle). On ascent as they have made the geometry very lazy. They are really vague when you try to steer while climbing. However, they are great on descents, loads of feel and stiffness and the new brake can really do it's job.
Can anyone recommend a good compromise for me in terms of fork travel (the maximum the Genius will allow without spoiling the geometry) and stiffness?
I guess that dropping back to 120mm travel would be good but I need a stiff fork/axle combo. Money is an object to sub £400 would be good!!!!
Thanks
