So, stripped my cassette off and then dismantled the free hub (campag- unsure of model), cleaned it all lubed it up and stuck it back together and it is now silky smooth. Question is when I assebled the cassette cogs and spacers onto the free hub body should I have put some grease/lube on the free hub body where the cogs engage on the ridges. I left it dry and it seems fine but am now wondering...

Thanks :)

Not essential but is good practice. It prevents rusting, seizing and fretting from slight cog movement..

 Remember less is more, just don't go daft with the lube.
