I posted last week about my Shimano UN54 bottom bracket and play in the cranks so i bought a new BB and fitted it today and there is still play in the cranks. I noticed that when i push the cranks with my hands from the non drive side i can definitely see some play in the bb at the frame. It,s a carbon frame with what looks like an insert inside it and the insert also moves . i cannot see any damage or cracks anywhere in or near the BB area Is the insert repairable or is the frame finished. Or am i doing something wrong, help please. If it,s the frame then i want to order a new one and i think i am going for a chinese frame from carbonzone.

I'm no expert but it sounds like the BB housing has come loose in the frame. Not sure how the carbon bikes are produced but if they are made with the housing moulded into the frame it could be hard to fix...

I'm sure someone who knows about these things will be along shortly :)

Typically, BB inserts are moulded-in so one coming loose is pretty difficult to fix. Suggest you speak to one of the carbon frame repair specialists - you might be able to drills a few holes and inject some epoxy to hold the insert in place.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
