Changed my stem, and after bolting everything back together the steering is noticeably stiffer. What have I done wrong, and how do I fix it?

Did you do the bolt up on the top cap of the stem before tightening the bolts on the stem that clamp it to the steerer?

You do need to re-adjust the bearings. See ParkTools site for how. Scroll down to adjustment.

Like John says, bearings too tight, top cap screwed down a bit too much

So if I loosen the top bolt that should help?

I have no doubt that Park Tools guide is helpful but to me it might as well be step-by-step instructions for building a Saturn V rocket. :)

Loosen top bolt and stem bolts. Tighten top bolt first to required tension, test with front brake for movement, then tighten stem bolts.

    That did it! Cheers. :)

Feels normal again. Hopefully the front of the bike won't fall out while I'm riding this weekend.

If it does, when you've re-assembled it, have it a bit tighter next time.
