Contemplating buying a Boardman Team 2011. Just a little concerned about the sizing. I'm aprox 6'2" and alittle on the large side ;-)

I would think the XL is the correct frame but apparently it only measures 57cm which seems alittle small to me.

Unfortunately my local store only has small in stock so I cant try one without travelling.

Anybody comments?

Thanks

You wouldn't need anything bigger than an extra large. The geometry of bikes vary, the boardman has quite a long top tube. I'm 6ft with 34inch legs and a large was plenty big enough for me. You might be between a large an xlarge, so if your planning on spending a grand on a bike it might be a good idea to try both before buying.

    Good luck.

    Travel!

I'm 6'1 and ride a medium, although thats completely irrelevant as you can tell from seanoconn's post.

    Thanks chaps

I know that there is no substitute for actually sitting on a bike. The other bike on my shopping list is the Focus Cayo and when you compare the geometry to the B/man Team they are significantly different.

I guess I'll have to hit the road.......in the car ;-)

Well I bit the bullet this morning. Yesterday I got "professionally fitted" on a Trek 2.3. After studying the geometry it's not a great deal different to the XL Boardman Team.
So I hit the motorway this morning and drove to the nearest store that had the XL in stock. Staff were actually pretty helpful and knowledgeable for Halfrauds.
More than happy with the fit of the XL so I parted with some hard earned cash. Jst been out in the pi$$ing rain and now I'm sat here knackered.
Brakes are useless compared to the Avid Elixirs on my Stump, but I guess that's no surprise.
I'd forgotten just how unfit I actually am, but from where I am, I can only get better.
So if you see a jibbering sweaty wreck in the granny gear riding along a nice flat bit of road, that'll be me! ;-)

How is the bike? I'm thinking of getting one- very good spec for the money :)

I'm more than hapy with the bike. It is certainly capable of much much more than I am. I can't really comment much more than that as I am pretty much a "newbie".
I did do quite a bit of research and the Boardman range always seem to get a very respectable report.

Change the brake pads for some Kool Stop black, for the summer, and then get some salmons for the winter. The difference between these and the bog standard pads fitted is amazing. So much so that I nearly went over the handlebars when I first tried them after fitting.

Have a Google and see where is selling them, don't think they'll be more than £13-£15 for a pair.

    Enjoy

I run Koolstop salmons all year round...Not tried the blacks for exclusive summer riding.

    Is there much noticable difference?

I had a boardman, they run on the small side for seat tube length have slightly longer top tubes to compensate. You're over 6ft, I would go for the XL, taller headset tube so you wont be so low down in relation to the top of your saddle height., You will be more comfortable that way. Alternatively go for something in about a 60cm frame size. Focus cayo is pretty good at the moment in terms of value

The blacks wear slightly better but are pretty sketchy in the wet.

Since I live in the Pennines, not California, I can't guarantee that it won't rain in summer!

I used salmon on the front and black on the back all year round.

Well. Less than 25miles on the bike and it appears as if the BB bearing has failed. ;-(

Horrible grinding noise appeared and rapidly deteriorated over a distance of 1-2miles. Bike back to Halfrauds for investigation.

Really disappointed that a £1000 bike ca fail in such a short period of time.

We'll see what they come back with.

Sorry to hear of your problems... this simply should not be allowed to happen having spent a grand. No quality control whatsoever.

components can fail for numerous reasons, if it was fitted incorrectly then fair enough, Halfords are muppets but things do fail. My BB failed within 300 miles on a Spesh which was built by qualified techs so you just never know. Hope you get it sorted out ok

All too common with Boarmans though

I've just collected the bike and all appears well again. They reckon it just hadn't been greased correctly. I'm a little sceptical if I'm honest but it does admittedly feel fine at the moment.
I'll be keeping a close (ear) on the situation and it will be going straight back if it re-occurs.

Why do you post such rubbish? You come out with the same regurgitated shyte every time someone mentions Boardman.

Like almost all of the 22,000 other people who bought one last year, mine has been perfect.

I read a few weeks ago that there have been a spate of BB30 failures this year (all bike brands) and there is a shortage of replacements in the UK.

where does he get his information from. i have yet to read about any owner being to unhappy or any failures/pictures, and im not talking about having somersalted of or hit the back of a tractor. i find it hard to believe that if such events were 'all to common' that it would be kept so secretive especially with characters like him desperate to rubbish them.

He doesn't 'get' his info from any where, he just makes it up to cause offence to Boardman owners.

I can't remember seeing one single Boardman thread without him posting some childish, unsubstantiated rubbish, along the lines of this post.

He is the troll of the Boardman world and all of his posts should be treated as from a troll.

Perhaps he thinks it makes him look intelligent. The reality is that his posts are always so short because he is only ever typing with his left hand.

Don't you know SRAM components only ever fail when they're fitted to a Boardman!

Totally ignoring the fact that all components are fitted before the Halfords guys (most of whom at least kind of know what they're doing) touch the bikes.

Shutuplegs, you are a pleb.
