hi, im currently swapping my shimano 10 speed cassette from mavic aksium wheels to shimano dura ace c50's, but notice that when the cassette is on the shimano freehub it only takes about 3/4 of a turn(ish) to tighten up the lockring and the gears aren't indexed (usually takes a couple of turns when the cassette is on the mavics before it tightens)

i've noticed behind the largest sprocket on the cassette, there is a spacer (look similar diameter to the other spacers used throughout the cassette, so my question is do i need to leave this spacer out when installing the cassette onto the shimano wheels?

sorry for the long winded post, any help is greatly appreciated
many thanks

yes you need the Shimano 10spd spacer fitted first. it is 1mm thick.

Mavic use a different spacer i believe.

thanks for that Nick, much appreciated. ill go get one in the morning.
i take it if no spacer is used you run the risk of damaging the freehub and you'd have play between the cassette and lockring?

    cheers

no spacer then the cassette will be lose.

the body on an 8/9/10 spd hub is the same. 8/9spd cassettes are the same width.
10spd is narrower as the first (big) cog sits further inboard and is over the hub.
