Can't afford a Garmin at this time, but my Blackberry Curve has a passable GPS and coupled with my Cateye, would do a decent job. Anyone known where I could get a suitable mounting for the Blackberry, preferably with a link?

Stick a nice free app on there like Endomondo and away you go, gives fantastic online stats back and routes, etc etc etc etc etc.. Awesome app IMHO0

Had been using imapmyride till earlier this week - now switched to endomond its great much more stats including laps at 1 mile or km. You can also hook up a bluetooth hrm, although think thry are expensive.
I just stick mine in small freezer bag then in jersey pocket but do fancy mounting it on stem / bars so I can see it and be depressed at my avereage mph.0 -
Ok if you can afford a blackberry or any smart phone ....
Ruddy wife + sprog always want something more important like food etc etc and then there are always shiny bike parts ...FCN 3/5/90 -

The Nokia 5230 is £60 on tesco PAYG, can run endomondo and serveral other tracking apps.
Not the greatest smartphone in the world, but considering it also has free turn by turn satnav is a bit of a bargain IMO0 -
Of course if you can't or won't buy a GPS there isn't much wrong with an OS map, compass and some know how0

I have stopped using Endomondo when out on rides on my HTC Hero.....it flattens the battery in about 3hrs and therefore I don't have the phone for what I really need - that unexpected emergency when you need to get the wife to come and fetch you!
However, it is a great Widget and you can manually enter your route and certain data when you get home. I simply use it as a log now, which keeps track of my milage - 3800 in my first year riding...woohoo!

Is the sat nav free to use?...
I use about £3 a month on payg as my phone is only for emergencies.......FCN 3/5/90 -

As long as you select 'use in offline mode' in the ovi maps options, and turn off the 'assisted' GPS, it won't cost you a penny.
Worth noting that although you can download the maps through your PC, the app itself needs to be downloaded through the device, which will cost. When I joined you got free internet for a couple of days iirc, in which time you could download the apps you want. Otherwise you can get a data bundle for £2/week. Just make sure you cancel it before the week is up!
I don't think there is any app that will let you follow a pre-programmed route, but at least you can set the ovi maps to tell you the way home if you get lost as much as I do!0
