Hi..
Got my heart set on an Orange 5 pro or am.. whats your thoughts..
I'll be riding local natural terrain i.e Thrunton woods as well as UK trail centres. Also possible trip abroad too. I'm steering towards the AM with 36 talas forks. My feeling is that the extra travel is there if I ever need it, and the talas adjust will assist with climbs. The maxel rear would be an upgrade on the pro too.
Anyone got any thoughts on the new PRO or AM? Really appreciate any advice.
Regards.. C :?

I demo'd the 5 AM and the Alpine recently. The 5AM didn't have TALAS forks but it was "peddle-able" up hill.........however, the Alpine out-climbed it (identical forks) due to the steeper seat angle. It took a fair bit more effort to pin the front down on the 5 AM - TALAS should resolve this. The Alpine is maginally heavier but that's the one I'm going for, it'll blast through anything downhill! For the extra £175 you get that back in spec (deore becomes slx and slx becomes saint, plus own brand finishing kit becomes truvative) and I found it a more balanced bike. I.e. you could tell that the 5's not built around such a big fork.
Hope that helps!0 -
Helpful yes.. although confused / undecided.. as you say, the talas should resolve the climb issue you highlighted.
How did you find AM on the decents and generally across flatish unstable terrain?
Other folk.... any other advice / help?
Cheers... C0 -
Amazing on the descents. Due to the route we took I did stiffer climbing on the Alpine and madder descending on the 5 AM. Backwards I know, but just the way things panned out. I could easily live with the 5 AM in the guise I had so TALAS would only make things sweeter. Gonna look at the Nukeproof Mega over the weekend, 150 rear, 160 front as I can't imagine ever needing more than 150 out back and did love the security of the 160 Fox 36's. So, to get a bike designed with this "mis-match" in mind would be awesome........if it lives up to the hype! £675 cheaper than an Alpine and £580 cheaper than a 5 with Maxle too!!! Fingers crossed it's as good as it sounds!0
