Buying first road bike for training

I'm a rower but have been interested in getting on a bike for a while. With the advent of a new illness my coach has told me to hit the road... for a few hours at a time to build up my base cardio.
So i figure I'll need some kind of bicycle. Now my budget is definitely low to start with, as this is definitely a training tool, rather than a competition machine, so I would want to spend under £600 unless there was something of exceptional value outside that range.
What do I need to take into account? I regularly weigh in at over 90kg, will all bikes be okay with this? My legs are also quite long, inside leg well over 36", does this mean I need a larger frame?
I've checked out the carrera bike sale and that seems a pretty good deal. any other reccomendations?

What I would do in your position is to buy something like a Giant defy 3 for about £500 and spend another £120 on a turbo trainer as that can be used to build up a good cardio using intensive training routines.CAAD9
