I'm looking to getting into biking and need a new bike. I would use it for commuting but also riding at the weekend and needs to be £400 max. I've had my eyes on the Viking Roma 2011, is this any good? Can you recommend something better in this price range?
Many thanks in advance,
George

In that price range you could get:

Carrera Virtuoso, Carrera TDF Ltd (from Halfords) both under £400 at the moment.

For around £400 there's the Raleigh Airlite 100 which had a good review in Cyclng Plus recently. Or the Jamis Ventura Sport for £449 from Evans.

Or of course you could go 2nd hand and get an older but better spec'd bike from Gumtree or E-Bay.

Good luck, make sure the bike feels and fits right before you part with your cash.
Where would you be if you fell down a hole?.. Stuck down a hole... in the fog... Stuck down a hole, in the fog, at night... WITH AN OWL!
  • At your price point many will point you in the direction of the second hand market which might be a good option.

If, like me, you want a new bike then maybe this thread will be of interest:

Halfords Vanquish, not gonna get a better specced bike for £400. Tiagra shifters, carbon fork. Sora mechs though.

Buy asap if they have size, £100 off plus another 20%!

Thanks everyone for the replies, I think I'll pays visit to halfords at the weekend to look at the TDF. Also, any opinions of the Dawes Giro 300? Seems pretty nice for the price.
    Many thanks,
    George

Claud Butler do some decent looking beginner's road bikes at around the £390 level.
