Hi All,

I would really appreciate some advice here please. I recently bought my 11 year old girl a decent mountain bike for her birthday & she seems to enjoy riding very much. I also bought myself a bike so I could help her have fun. It would be great to find her a good hobby to keep her fit.

Our longest local ride was a pleasant 20k along the towpath which was about manageable, but owt much longer might be too much for her.

I would really love to take her on a nice easy scenic & pleasant ride to keep her interest up & show how how beautiful this sport can be. Please can some of you guys help me out here and advise on where I can take her?

Based in Huddersfield, willing to travel an hour or 2
Ride of 20-25km or less
Not too difficult please (were both beginners & she's 11)
Any lifts available so she can just enjoy the Down Hill

Many Thanks in advance
Marc

Loads of rides in Yorkshire, and a good start is our Trans Pennine Trail. Relatively flat, easy to get maps for, great scenery. Plus loads of places to start.

It's well signposted. There's a map on Sustrans.

Peak District... Tissington, Manifold and High Peaks trails. Great scenery, easy riding and tea stops.. not much 'challenge' (no 'downhill') but for scenic riding these are lovely trails.

Otherwise, I'd suggest you look at an OS map and scout out local bridleways... as well as getting some 'local' advice. It can be a bit of a challenge finding interesting trails for your young riders.

You'd be amazed what kids can do. I meet families with very small children on bikes in the middle of nowhere and I can't help but wonder how they got up the hills! One guy on here recently posted proud as punch about how his 11 year old son just did his first 100 mile road ride. Let her expand her horizons, she'll tell you when it's too much :-)
