Long waiting list for a cycle locker at my workplace, can anyone suggest a good portable lock? The value of the bike is £800

Make sure your bike is inusered then get the lock ie 'silver' or 'gold' that your insurance company will cover you for. more than likey you will be 'sold secure gold' Abus lock.
PS make sure you lock your wheels if they are quick release and also your seat."I love you less than cake, but way more than Marmite!"0 -
Hi Youngy81 - it's definitely worth investing in two good locks.
It's a false economy to do anything else, as the chances of your bike or a wheel being nicked will increase if you don't.
At least one "gold standard lock" is essential!0 -
what area?
if it's bike theft friendly london, where the police usually don't care, then you'll need a chunky d-lock plus a chain or second lock to hang onto the other wheel, even then the bastards may still pinch saddles etc.
cable locks will get cut fast, lightweight d-locks will get cut or jacked open
this is the best place to get the latest info on locks, the first post is updated regularly...

I got the
"Kryptonite New York M18"
off amazon for about £59 I think, in the last week. Elsewhere it is £20 more expensive. It is bloody heavy though (20kg) so I think I'll leave it at work!0 -

Nah its a false economy, that lock would be easily jacked open or bolt cropped in a matter of seconds.
This as a minimum: http://www.evanscycles.com/products/kry ... t-ec006264
But preferably:

or

Backed up my preferably a chain through the front wheel and frame or failing that a cable/armoured cable (depends how much you value your front wheel really!)0 -
Just curious:
What would put up more of a fight against thief:
1) Kryptonite Series 4 Evolution
2) Onguard Brute
The brute SEEMS more capable according to the specs.. then again it doesnt seem to be tried and tested as much as the evolution.
Anyone have any of these locks?0
