Will Coed-y-Brenin trash my forks?

Hi,

I'm planning my first trip to Coed-y-Brenin next month and was wondering whether my bike's going to be up to the task. I have a basic 2010 Rockhopper with Dart 3 forks. I've never been impressed with the Dart forks (much worse that the Tora on my old Rockhopper) and was considering upgrading them anyway, but can't really afford it atm.

My question is, will CyB make mincemeat of these forks and should I just upgrade now and sell the Darts for £40-50 whilst they're still in good condition? Or am I worrying too much?

Many thanks.

One trip won't make much difference! You may enjoy it more on the new forks though..?

Course it won't. They're not great but they're not matchsticks either.

Well, they're a damn sight better than the first suspension forks I rode there. They'll be fine. They just won't be as good as a decent fork. But you already knew that.

Same as above really. The only time Ive ever had a problem was with the first set of forks I ever owned the first time I ever went out. Suntour XCR on the blue run at llandegla. Possibly the smoothest piece of trail centre in the world lol

My mate had dart 2 for years on his trek and they never caused a problem

Well, a motocross bike would only cause problems by its slower handling, really.

why not go there and see if they can take the abuse? if not then it's a great excuse to fork  out for new ones 'sorry darling, my sheer awsomeness broke the forks, I'll have to get new ones... yes these fox ones are expensive aren't they....'

  • Don't sweat it. Back in the day I used to use a set of RST 381s around there. Yours will be fine!

Yep. Went there for the first time in March and was told "knee pads, 120mm travel full sus reqd" (for the Beast) and didn't get my pads out of my pack and got around no problem on my 100mm travel bike alongside three of our number who did it on HTs! We saw a few riding 1x9 and 1x10 rigids as well.

The bike won't be the limiting factor in your performance!

your bike will be fine. it's very rocky though, watch your pedals on the narrow singletrack. 1 guy in our group caught a rock with his pedal and was flung off. weekend over.

Oh yes, the single track. I hit my pedals several times while trying to go faster. Keep your feet up.
Can't wait to go back, love that place.
    Many happy trails!
