23 minutes imo is a very good time, especially if its your first ever TT!

23 what?, 23:01, 23:59?, big difference, which course?

On face value though, a 23 is way above average, it pretty damn good!

    if it's 23 dead it's quick. it's above evens, i.e over 25mph average speed.

i thought evens was the 20 half hour. it must make a big difference on a proppper time trial rig :o 25mph on a road rig would be serious going.

yeah i heard about that. what kind of speed would you say for the start. i suppose 20 wouldnt be too taxing for a bit. there are some pretty good members though, i think around the 21 mark. i think a chap named jim coleman is the man to watch.

It's personal to everyone and also course dependant.

Rather than worry about speed (I don't look at speed on my computer) just go easier than you think you should be going. You'll be thinking 'this is easy!' but believe me, it'll bite you in the backside. As a certain Scouser said, a TT isn't won in the first mile. I have power, speed, HR and Time on my computer. However I don't look during the TT, just go by feel...
Once up to speed after 4-5 mine, CANE IT!

will do fella. it does seem to take a while to get in rhythm. i suppose its about keeping the lactic acid under control and waiting for the endorphins to kick in.

I always do a good warm up. I'm sweating like a glassblower's ar5e by the time i get to the line. The shorter the event, the more intense the warm up...

good question , one that once i started looking at this more closely makes a big differance as you pointed out , it seems that the time was nearer 24 than 23 , also the first part of the course was down hill , an also it was a windy day , so its entirely possible that because it was a loop some or none of it could have been ridden with a tail wind or into a head wind ,
but as the time was rounded down to 23 when it was closer to 24 and the down hill bit was never mentioned then i'm thinking it was a good effort but not beyond me as i rode another route that he trains on last week and did the same time as him to within a few minutes over a 24 mile course with a head wind for 12 miles of it ,

Ahhhh, I think I get it now, this other guy is trying to big himself up I guess?.

If it was an open event, then you can find his time and what course it was quite easily, because CTT has records of most of the open events held online.

Even if it was a club event, post clubs post their results online.

Was I could round my 24:07 pb down to a "23"!!!

difficult for me to say realy as i have only actually been on a road bike for 6 weeks , although i have trained in the gym for it since late last year , he can definately push the pedals around but thats against me , like a lot of people they often like to train with guys just slightly below their leval , its not an uncommen occurance in most gyms , what that equates to in a club trial i dont know , i can see now why average speeds etc posted times are taken with a pinch of salt . i would have to say he
has to be around the 24 mph mark perhaps a tad more dependant on the course i guess , he wants me to have a go , apparantly they do this once a week ,

guys , 10 mile time trial , done in 23 minutes , is that an average , good or above average time ?
also , will this equate to a 23 mph average speed , if not how can i work that out
From what I have read 30 mins (20 mph) would be a very good 10 mile TT time for a beginner.

23 mins for 10 miles is 26 mph (worked out by 60/23*10) which is very fast and I would think to get that you would need a combination of a very fit cyclist, good bike, good flattish route and good weather conditions.
