In 2 months the cycle to work scheme is again at my place of work and I am tempted to get another steed around the £1000 mark...simply because I can make a great saving...but do I really need it and more to the point will the bike I get be any different to those I own. I ride a Giant Defy with 105 gearing and I got this on a previous ride2work (but it has suffered damage in a recent accident) I also have a genesis/ridgeback hybrid from some 5 years ago which is good in traffic but not very exciting to ride. I was thinking of going for a steel framed bike ie genesis equilibrium because it is said they are more confortable and forgiving than a aluminium framed bike ( I suspect this is a matter of personal taste) Whould you have a new bike? and if so what would you suggest? Perhaps I am just being greedy and should be thankful for what I have....

    1. Nice road bike
    2. Tourer / winter bike with mudguards and pannier rack
    3. mountain bike

So yes, three seems to be the optimum number :-)

Despite having in the previous year bought a Look on C2W (or, at least, a small part of a Look!) last year I bought a Ribble Gran Fondo on C2W partly because, as you say, the savings were too good to miss. The Ribble has virtually the same geometry as the Look and almost the same groupset so in some ways is pointless. But effectively it covers me at weekends for when I don't want to take the Look (eg duff weather) and commuting. Arguably, I don't need it but the choice is nice to have. And it shows what you can get for 1k these days.

So, why not try a bit of bargain carbon bling? Or, if you want steel (and why not) you could get a handbuilt Bob Jackson on C2W.

    3? Optimum number? Ridiculous! I have 5........

It's all down to storage, money and with me the wife. I have to stick with 3, if i got 4 i'd be living in the shed but sometimes this is very tempting and i am starting to insulate it.

    1. Salt bike
    2. Summer bike
3 I really wanted one so i bought it bike..

    Rule 12:

The minimum number of bikes one should own is three. The correct number is n+1, where n is the number of bikes currently owned. This equation may also be re-written as s-1, where s is the number of bikes owned that would result in separation from your partner.
