Not sure about the 305 but I have a forerunner 405 (might be the same) and use 'Garmin Training Centre' to send the .tcx file to the divice.
1: Map course using one of many sites
2: Download the .tcx file from the above site and save to your computer
3: Install/Open garmin training centre and import course
4. Send course to device
You should then be able to find it under 'Courses' on your watch.Cube Attempt 20110 -

You can send the route straight from the website to the device with the garmin browser plugin.

Garmin training center is really poor. No need to use it at all.0 -

Which site do use to map the course?Cube Attempt 20110 -

Try GPsies.com (http://www.gpsies.com/home.do;jsessioni ... 04296875_p) So easy to use. I preplan my routes on that giving me distances and turn by turn directions and then download the route to the Garmin.I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0
