hey all im new here, but not new to MTBing, i have a couple of questions. my technical knowledge aint so hot (just like my skills) so here goes...
firstly i have a spesh hardrock sport 05 (late model) 17inch frame and well the front forks are well done in, they're supposed to have 100mm travel but have realistically about 50mm (hard springs) there is quite a bit of play in them, so i realise i have to get some new ones.
i've just purchased a kross signfr1 frame and suntour duro tripple clamps. both slightly used, if i slap the trips on the spesh, how long will it last? will it just damage the frame? or will it goof the forks too? im not too fussed about the spesh, its old, had numerous pain jobs, been stripped down n rebuilt plenty of times. it is a hard tail, but i generally use it for down hilling because i haven't built the DH bike yet.
as a side note, im 6ft5 and bout 17 n a half stone, so im not small but plenty of inercher (sp)
this is my bike in its current "customized" form
any and all help appreciated. thanks 8)
(edited subject, decided it wasn't imformative anough)

Don't put those forks on the bike, you will kill it! You need 80-120mm travel single crown forks.0

Oh, I have seen it! It maybe fine - but is certainly not designed for it, and for that reason cannot recommend it. Can buya Rockshox Tora for £100, will blow the Duro away.0

only paid 200 notes for both frame n forx, or 150 for frame n 50 for forks, bargain really. i think i might try it on the spesh once the dhis built n ready, that way im not without a bike lol
thanks for your time fella, much appreciated. 8)I'm a Nazi Zombie! And You Cant Kill Me!

Sorry man, not mocking you. Having fun is what its all about....Try singlespeed ...No hangers to wreck and more BMX oriented. Think a harder hitting larger frame might suit you though.0 -

It certainly looks like the kind of FR/DH frame you need...Try starting a thread on the buying advice or workshop & tech sections, you should get some good advice regarding the TC forks0
-
dude dont do it, the triple crowns will kill you and the bike
i know what you mean about buying lower end stuff and the cost, but if you head to your Local Bike Shop (LBS) and ask if they have any parts from about 2 years ago, still boxed you can get some good deals one stuff. I did it at cycle surgery, not an LBS i know, but i rebuilt a trek from about £120 and that was all new Shimano Deore XT parts, just the 2009 designs0 -
ok if you buy cheap you buy twice . look at what you need to buy , then when your bike brakes don't buy the cheap part but save up and buy better . I've been there and done it . I went through 3 sets of cheap wheels in one week , so i stopped riding for over a month while i saved up for hope hubs and halo rims and dt swiss spokes. The hubs cost me £260 , the rims £70 and spokes £80 and the shop charged me £25 per wheel to build.
having spent £400 on the custom build they have now lasted me 12 years with out a hiccup.0 -

But seriously, you need a bigger frame. You're going to damage yourself on that thing.
I've never broken a mech hanger (touch wood), what are you doing?
well, for the last few years, the spesh has been my A to B bike, and fun bike, gettin a car soon though, so my DH bike will be able to be just that, a DH bike,. and my A to B bike will be cool for just that,
if you go on you tube, and look up a place called lee quarry, its in bacup, uk.
that is mainly where i go, at the moment. i gues i am a bit daft, no helmet or padding of any kind, can just about afford to maintain the bike.
not any more tho, i am gettin a car, and hopefully starting a business so should be able to afford mid or top end stuff.kaiser83 wrote:dude dont do it, the triple crowns will kill you and the bike

thats cool, might just try that you know, i can usually get a good deal on stuff, so will try my hand at that.
deffo not gonna stick the trips on the spesh then.I'm a Nazi Zombie! And You Cant Kill Me!
