Hi,

Currently, my rear gears arnt shifting, and so its staying in one gear. I'm using shimano 2300 atm, the gear cable is pretty tight (otherwise the rear derailleur sets down amd touches the extra gears), yet the thumb shifters and the sti shifting dont bring any response, like its a completely seperate part of the bike!

Any idea how to fix this?

Thank you again :)

which gear is it staying in?
what do you mean "the rear derailleur sets down and touches the other gears"?!

    I'd have a look here:
http://techdocs.shimano.com/media/techd ... 673817.pdf [let the cable free from your mech and then start at "stroke adjustment and cable securing"]

Sorry- not very good at all the terminology but ill try and learn them :) i meant the sprocket.

I've loosened the cable, and the derailleurs automatically shifted to the highest gear. The thing is; its not 90 degrees to the floor as in the diagram you showed me

If i pull the cable and tighten it, then it will change to a lower gear but as soon as i change gear the idler completely retracts a lot nearer to the deraeilleur and gears dont change
