Hubs and cassettes

Hi guys just a quick question, I’m a little confused. Do 8, 9 and 10 speed cassettes all fit onto the same hubs or do you need a 8, 9 or 10 speed specific hub? Hubs don’t seem to be sold with designated speeds. Are the cogs just closer together?
