Hi folks, been a while - apologies if there's a protocol or anything for doing this that I'm neglecting to follow, but I thought I'd pop in and stick this up:

It's a month old Steve - done 1000km on it already, it comes to Italy with me next weekend, and the Alps the week after!

Tinkering? Saddle already changed (that one was only ever really on there to look good!), tyres changed, cassette changed... what is this 'tinkering' you speak of?... ;)

Very classy (especially as its australian) bike that will age like a fine wine although that will not be very useful to you if you keep changing bikes as you say!
It’s the most beautiful sport in the world but it’s governed by ***ts who have turned it into a crock of ****.

This one stays - given what it cost I just cannot bear to separate with it!

An amazing machine too, the whole experience is attached to it - including the 6hrs spent at the Baum factory in Geelong... 8)

Love it Rich - not sure the main picture does it justice though given the others in the flickr sets!

What did it weigh in at in the end? [pre or post tinkering... ;-)]

    Can I have it - ?

    Lush...

What are the changes? If I could, I'd spec a custom Ti up and Di2 the fella (where is the battery?)

Got the King cages - you have to start somewhere!

I know Mark - waiting for a proper side-on shot to be done!

FInal weight was 6.7kg, but the SRM will drive that up a bit ;)

Changes? Just the saddle, tyres and cassette - nothing significant.

Di2 battery is under the non-drive side chainstay 8)

You said - I was looking for the details! What type of saddle etc. And what is the frame size (hoping it isn't my size so I do not hunt you down and wrestle the thing off you).

Saddle is still being determined - having issues with saddles at the moment and am gradually working my way through, well, pretty much everything on the market! Specialized Romin Pro is next up, but I don't hold out much promise for that.

The San Marco Superleggera is actually really comfortable as far as the shape goes, but it's just too firm.

Size is unlikely to fit many - that top tube is only 55.5cm, yet the saddle height is 79.5cm! Long head tube too, otherwise I'd have a monster saddle-to-bar drop!

    I will NEVER sell it.

Sorry thought you'd changed again after the above!

It is ok about not selling it, as I'd not be able to afford it used. I'll let you keep it.

Shame the cables don't match the frame, I would be inclined to swap them out for white to match the text and the bands on the seat tube and the line on the downtube (unless that's a reflection in the light).

Otherwise very nice, must have cost a lot of money

The cables match in the right light - they stay regardless, they cost me £200 on their own. Yes, really.

If I ever changed the cable colour I'd probably go grey/silver TBH - the white graphics (yes, that is a line between the black and purple) are quite a dull white, and black would be too dull and boring.

As you can imagine given their cost I plan to run the purple cables for as long as I possibly can.

Oh, and I like them - that's the most important thing

Fair play mate 8) Personal tastes aside, I'm sure you will get a lot of enjoyment from her for many years to come.

Was there a specific reason to use the integrated seat post version rather than the "normal" one?

I'm seriously considering one of these, but have never ridden a Ti frame. I have a couple of very fine carbon frames, which ride beautifully, and a couple of aluminium ones with variable ride quality, and am curious where a Ti frame would sit in "feel" and comfort.

Any thoughts on comparison with a (good) carbon frame?

Wow, nice :) Must be the wrong side of £10k though? How much does custom bar tape cost, didn't even know it existed?...

Nothing more than making it 'my own' really, although it does eliminate risk of seatpost slippage and creaking!

This is my 4th Ti road frame - previous ones have been an Omega (now Enigma), a Lynskey and an Enigma fixie. I've also had 2 alu road frames (Cervelo and Cannondale) and 2 carbon (Cervelo and Look). Fair to say there's enough experience to go on there...

BUT, it is all dependent on the way the frame is built. This Baum is easily as stiff as both of my alu frames were, although it's not at all harsh (although I wouldn't call either of my alu frames harsh necessarily either - again, it's about how the frame is built). I think it's every bit as stiff as my carbon bikes have been too.

In terms of 'feel', my Lynskey was quite 'soft' by comparison - silky smooth to ride and perfectly capable of transferring the power, but not exactly sprightly. The Baum has a lot more 'zip' to it, mainly because the chainstays are pretty solid, the seatstays pencil straight and the PF30 BB gives a larger area for the downtube to attach.

As a direct comparison to my current Look, the Look is possibly marginally more comfortable - something I attribute to the ISP on the Baum being much more rigid than a carbon seatpost. If I were to compare the Look to my old Lynskey, that was easily more comfortable, but not quite so 'direct' in it's power transfer.

    Hopefully that helps somewhat?

I don't like to talk about it, but you're still quite a way off...

Not as bad as you might imagine - was about £90 I guess.

'Exist' and 'custom' - kind of an oxymoron, no?

There are folk who 'exist' and create custom bar tapes and saddle coverings if you know where to look, or you can go halfway and get some Handlebra stuff.

That is very, very, nice indeed.
