Has to be Red or Red and Black!

Red/Black road bikes have to be the best looking bikes there are (I know that's a matter of opinion!). My favourite colour combination is the 2010 Pinarello FP2 which looks amazing however I can only spend about £1000 on a bike. I did mention in a previous post that I couldn't afford a new one but I've managed to find the money! However I do have some questions.
My existing road bike (and the only one I've had) is one from J E Cycles which is a steel frame and I think is about 8 years old. It has sora gears and nova rigida rims with contintental gatorskin tyres. I am thinking of getting a new one and using my existing one for the winter.
The new one (apart from being prodominently red and black) would need to be a 'sportive' type bike as I would use it for long rides, and wouldn't be doing any racing.
I'm quite happy with sora gears (unless someone can persuade of the merits of anything different) and was thinking about the Ribble Sportive bikes. I know there are problems with delivery dates but otherwise does the Ribble bike represent good value for money?
Are there any other good 'sportive' bikes to consider? I know there are others, eg Verenti Millook, but where you get a better gearing system you don't get a carbon frame. I don't know enough about bikes to know whether it is betting to get a carbon frame and sora gears or an alu frame with SRAM gears.
Also, if I do go for the Ribble should I upgrade the wheels from Pro Lite Como Clinchers?
Apologies for all the questions and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not full carbon but has 105 groupset, its within budget and is Red/Black
http://www.thebikelist.co.uk/cube/attempt-2011/specs
It also came out 1st in the best road bike under £1k category

Thanks
I looked at the Cube review on Bike Radar and it certainly looks like a great bike but knowing little about these things I don't know whether it is better go for a carbon frame with sora/tiagra (Ribble New Sportive) or a non carbon frame with 105 (Cube Attempt).
If a 105 groupset is far superior to sora then I could upgrade the Ribble (if I also upgrade the Ribble with the Fulcrum wheels and Schwalbe tyres - which are on the Cube) then the overall cost is £1285.0 -

I have the verenti kilmeston which has the same SRAM groupset as the millook and I really like it. Takes no time to get used to the double tap shifting. Wiggle do a 30 day test ride policy so you could order one, give it a couple weeks riding and see what you think, if you have funds available temporarily (credit card?).0

wow that focus looks like an awesome deal. i'd say do that....
there is a specialized secteur 2011 model which is red and black with sora/tiagra mix for around £770 mark which is heavily aimed at sportives though

Thanks for the various replies.
I'm not going to be able to test ride any of the bikes except the ones from Wiggle using their 30 test ride facility. There isn't going to be a shop that sells all the bikes that have been recommended in any event so assuming I go for a sportive type bike then it will probably come down to 2 things. First of all the specification and secondly the look of the bike.
I assume the most important part is the frame followed by the wheels/tyres then the groupset. On the basis I'm happy to go with sora or tiagra then should I go for the carbon frame of the Ribble plus some decent wheels/tyres. Am I going to get a really good ride out of that combination or is it possible to get as good a ride out of something like the Cube or Focus even though they don't have carbon frames?
Also, whilst a test ride is ideal surely whatever bike you go for you will get used to it and find it comfortable provided it has been properly set up?
It's all very confusing!
