Hi,
I am planning to ride LEJoG to raise money for Marie Currie Cancer Care at the end of July.
I live in Scotland and was considering posting my bike down to the start. Does anyone know of a friendly LBS near Lands End / Penzance who may take delivery of the bike, and even put it back together for me?
Am happy to pay for the service.
Thanks
Jo

Jo - there is a Halfords there, I don't know if they would be happy to do it for you, but I guess they might do. I have been in there a couple of times and they are an upstairs floor of a motor place - I do know that they don't stock GXP Bottom Brackets:
The other place in Penzance is Cycle Centre and I reckon they would be your best bet: http://cyclecentre.net/contact/ again - haven't used them.
You won't be able to find anywhere closer to Lands End. BTW - Lands End is a good 10 miles from Penzance (so add that into your planning). It is also a steep climb out of Penzance (get used to that in Cornwall!). I wouldn't go down the A30 if I was you - far more pleasant through Newlyn (if longer).
Good luck!http://www.georgesfoundation.org

The only 'cycle' shop in Penzance is the Cycle Centre as mentioned by 'mroli'
There is a list of probably all of the retailers in Cornwall here: http://cyclestuff.terapad.com along with clubs etc.Stumpjumper FSR 09/10 Pro Carbon, Genesis Vapour CX20 ('17)Carbon, Rose Xeon CW3000 '14, Raleigh R50

Best bike shop that i found in that area was Cycle logic in Helston, 10 miles in the opposite but they couldn't do enough when my rear mech went tits up.
If you have a bit of extra time try the route through Newlyn, Lamorna etc, it is beautiful and there's a nice little hairpin near Porthcurno if you come from Landsend direction.0 -
Cyclecentre in Penzance is my local shop. Great bunch of guys and they will sort out your bike for you prior to LEJOG. Give them a call on 01736 351671.0

I was down in Cornwall for 2 weeks until last weekend - there are only about 4 decent bike shops in that area - the others being Hayle Cycles in Hayle or Ricci in Redruth. I managed to get in over 600km of riding so pretty well covered much of the Land's End peninsula. The coast road north from Lands end through St Just and around to St Ives is nicer that the southerly route IMO particularly if it's clear weather. Cornwall might not be very high but there's more climbs per km than much of the UK.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Thanks alot folks.
I called CycleCentre and they were really helpful. Apparently they get asked to do this alot. They are happy to accept the bike, put it together and service it for a small fee
Many thanks for your replies, I was a little wary of just posting my bike to an address that I found on the internet.
Cheers for the comments... I was aware that I would have 10 miles to ride to the start - I didn't realise that a large hill was involved - oh well... I understand from reading various blogs that the first couple of days of rolling hills will probably be the toughest, but I'm hoping that my early enthusiasm will get me through that  My other advantage is that I will be heading home as I go...
Thanks again
