2011 genesis range

I'm considering upgrading my frame to one of the 2011 genesis range, i'm unsure which yet but it'll probably be the latitude.
However the frames say they are designed for a xx44 headset (I assume this means tapered) however i would rather run standard 1 1/8" forks.
Can I use a standard headset or do you need to buy something fancy? Is it even possible to run non tapered forks?

no you will need to run a headset correct for the frame. yes you can run none tapered forks in tapered frames."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

A xx44 headset is designed to run an 1 1/8" fork with a zero stack headset, but should you have a tapered fork you can run it with an external 1.5" headset cup. Cane Creek do headsets to fit both. Under the new S.H.I.S classification of headsets (http://bicycleheadsets.com/) for an 1 1/8" you'd need a ZS44/30 lower cup and a ZS44/28.6 top cup. For tapered you'd need EC44/40 lower cup and the same top cup as 1 1/8".0

Interesting! thanks for your replies.
After a quick look on CRC for headsets that match those numbers the only ones that come up are the Cane Creek anglesets. At nearly £200 they are well out my budget!
Does anyone else make the correct headsets for a reasonable price? i.e £50ish.
Having to pay £200 on top of a £400 frame is a little ridiculous!0 -
A zero stack headset will work perfectly fine with 1 1/8" forks
Something like this - http://www.extrauk.co.uk/product/detail ... dset/1951/
Or - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=36141
Or if you feel a little bit flush - Bottom cup B http://www.leisurelakesbikes.com/produc ... ?&id=16288 and Top cup 2 http://www.leisurelakesbikes.com/produc ... ?&id=162910 -
thanks for the advise!0
