Everyone will recommend whatever they currently use, even if they've never tried anything else.0

^^ agreed..
In other word, just get any old chain lube from your LBS, any make/model is better than none... Or even just some gt85 before and after every ride..Riding - Voodoo Bantu0 -

Rock & Roll chain lube.. .. I've tried every lube out there in my last 15 years of DH and TT riding, and Rock & Roll is the best out there. It's a combination cleaner and lubricant..
Also, Rock & Roll cable lube is as good as it gets.........................

Finish Line Teflon plus Dry Lube
For summer or road bike
Finish Line Cross Country Wet Lube
For MTB or winter time
Remember to clean you chain before you apply lube and less is sometime more when applying lube
Also remove excess lube from chain with a clean cloth0 -
Why not GT85?
I was told "with authority" by a bike shop guy that this was perfect.
It's all I've been using as lube / general protection.0 -
Which bike shop said that?Say... That's a nice bike..

GT85 is a general purpose cleaning/lubricating spray. It is NOT the same as WD40

Re: GT85 - both Leisure Lakes and two separate bike techs at Halfords (but in fairness, the Halfords bloke was a keen BMXer & did seem to know his stuff, or so I thought).0

WD40 is a releasing agent, and can 'lubricate' certain things but not bike chains .....0 -

I use GT85 to clean the chain... spray a bit on a Baby wipe and run the chain back, comes up lovely!!!
After this I use a couple of spots of Finish Line cheapo nasty bike oil..
Works great!0 -
Well there is a lot of conflicting advice here - several people have told me that GT85 is a perfect chain lubricant, and people here seem to think differently... so which is it?
(as I said, I've only ever used GT85 on a regularly cleaned chain, and it seems to run perfectly)0 -

My take on this whole thing is that it doesn't matter what "lube" you use on your chain as long as you use it with regularity. The only ones that really seem to be in question are GT85 and WD40 and both of them have their fan clubs and their "no - never" people.
Just go buy some lube, even if only plain oil. It will work. The bike chain is not rocket science.0 -
Wahey !!! I thought it had been a while since someone asked about chain lube !!
Use what every you like, just make sure that your chain is clean before you put it on.
oh........... and don't use WD40. The official word from WD40 is that it is too thin to resist the shear forces generated in a cycle chain, for any reasonable length of time.
I emailed then and askedScience adjusts it’s beliefs based on what’s observed.

Well in the face of overwhelming disagreement on here I have ditched the GT85 and ordered some good quality chain lube today!
As an aside I sprayed GT85 over the frame after I cleaned it the other day, and after a single ride it looks filthier than it did in the previous 8 weeks - the dirt seems to be attracted to the GT85, so I wont be doing that again.
Still, it gives me an excuse to strip & clean the bike again this weekend!0
