What have morals got to do with paying tax ??
I've worked bl**dy hard to earn my bonus payment this month. It's a bonus because it's for work carried out over and above what is expected of me. As far as I can see, it's morally wrong for the government to say "well done, you've worked extra hard, now we're taking 40% of that" !!!

You won't see it as immoral if tomorrow some t**t runs you off the road and you need the police and an ambulance.
  • That would be a far more interesting piece of information? Do the rich get richer by riding a carrera instead of a Felt? (name picked out of a hat so excuse me if there are more expensive bikes)
Some people are like slinkies - not much use for anything, but they bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

Yes obviously. If you spend less then you keep more. Assuming you had the cash in the first place.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

I wonder how many of them pay income tax?

All of them, otherwise they would be in prison/abroad.

They just generally have better tax planning, that's all. Generally a ) you can afford it and b ) you need it when you're worth mega bucks.

The question is probably whether they pay as much income tax as you think they should morally, which is probably different from how much they have to legally.

Because empathy and altruism when used liberally can make for a much better life for everyone. Besides, how do you think the infrastructure you use to earn your bonus appears?

From personal experience you don't need to be massively wealthy to speculate during a recession, you just need to pay attention to what's going on around you.

Anyone can speculate but a) you need quite a bit to make quite a bit and b) the very wealthy can afford to risk an awful lot more and stand to make bigger gains because they have a bigger cushion if their risk doesn't pay off.

But how much of that 40% goes in the NHS pot, and how much goes in the illegal war pot?!

Unfortunately you can't pick and choose which pot your tax goes in, I don't like the idea that some of mine goes into the pointless (IMHO) nuclear deterant pot. I'd also like to be in the position of earning enough to have to pay 40% tax.

True but everyone has their own idea of what 'quite a bit' is. It's not for everyone but I just like to challenge the perception that such activity is the preserve of the rich, after all, anyone with a pension scheme is involved in the markets anyway.

Tax is immoral. I earn it and the government forces me to hand it over (without earning it).
