Hi,
I see you are just up the road from me in Edmonton but you can try Sports direct as they do some from £20 which have the same pad as the Lycra one which I have and are not bad for the money.
You should go for the lycra ones and you quickly get use to them.0 -
as sicknote said, you will look more stupid on a roadie in baggies than in lycra, swallow your pride and buy some proper kit0

its not about looking stupid mate.. its just a personal preference. i wear compression purely because of the benefits in slowing down the production of lactic acid, but also for its sweat wick properties.
im not fussed if people think i look dumb wearing them whilst riding. ill checkout sports direct, thanks for the advice mate.0 -
If you wear decent cycling shorts underneath, to be honest I reckon any shorts can be worn over them.
The only advantage of cycling specific 'baggies' is that there shouldn't be a seam in the shorts where there is contact with the saddle.Stumpjumper FSR 09/10 Pro Carbon, Genesis Vapour CX20 ('17)Carbon, Rose Xeon CW3000 '14, Raleigh R50

I was of the impression that lycra and compression gear were two very different beasts? Having worn compression gear for recovery from other sports, I can confidently state that it feels totally different to cycling lycra.0 -
Just don the lycra bib shorts and jerseys like the rest of us
We actually wear it because it's the most comfortable and practical to wear.
If your not sure what you shoud be wearing try this link

It helped me out a lot during this last winter0 -
you can wear compression gear during sport too to slow down the onset of lactic acid. i believe a lot of sportsman do it. they also dont remove it straight after sport, but don it until their body temp stabilises0

don't take this the wrong way but if its not about looking stupid, why would your preference be something that makes your life harder (baggies being less aero and the chamois being able to move around more therefore being uncomfortable)0 -
no offence taken mate. i just personally feel comfortable riding in my boardie shorts. just the right amount of ventilation, to exercise and chill in too. in terms of aero, well the loss would be very minimal as im not looking to compete. plus you can then get into the convo of shaven legs, head, arms etc.... thats just extreme and if we are honest, the effects only noticeable when you at the elite level. im just starting out.
im after a general, comfy commute and laze around thing. cheap too. my waist size changes from time to time depending on my weight training regime, hence nothing expensive.
i dont personally wear the inner padded short anyway, so whether they move or not , isnt much of a concern. basically im looking for a decent short that i can wear over my compression gear. any recommendations?0 -
Try "Start Fitness", there own brand More Mile have MTB Baggies, come with inner shorts with chamois and the baggies. I have them and they are seriously comfy. Think they were about £20.0

thanks bill that's exactly what I'm after0

bill, the review on the site says that they arent actually baggy. how do you find them?0
-
Cycling shorts arent compression kit. Compression kit came much much later - and opinion is divided as to whether it actually works anyway.0

I think you'd be better off asking this over on the equivalent mountain bike area of the fourm - it doesn't sound like you are after road bike gear, which by it's nature is non-baggy
You'll save yourself a lot of "wear lycra" repsonses.0 -

I wear a medium and feel like I have plenty room, I can get the under shorts under them or even my bibshorts and I still have room to move freely. Maybe go up a size if you want them to be more baggy, they come with a velcro belt sewn into the shorts.0 -
