The classic is well worth riding there are some great climbs and even better descents. To be honest it is worth riding just for the screaming mile that comes down into fairholmes.

    Its not finished...

Its developed a creak, I think its the saddle so i have ordered a new seatclamp to help rule out possibilities.

Heres a photo from today now the steere clamp has been trimmed.

  • Check the saddle rails fella, one of my saddles creaked like mad, then noticed one of the rails had split, also my spoon creaked a lot, took All the screws ut the plastic covers and squirted grease into the rail holesand around the plastic moulding areas which has stopped it all!
Worth a check on yor bb too as with a steel frame will resonate through a lot more!

Bottom bracket was replaced this week and its still doing it so i don't think it can be that. I dismantled the seatclamp and greased it, greased the post and put it all back together and it still does it. Its a 4 ride old Fizik Gobi on Thompson post and i'm pretty sure its the saddle.

I think it'll be going back to Merlin as i'm not accepting this noise from a £100 saddle!
  • Yeah, for a £100 saddle I'd be not wanting it to squeak!!!

Good news!! Merlincycles agree that the seat creaks and cracks so a new one is on its way!

In other news in the process of finding the click I have replaced the Bottom Bracket with an XT one and a Salsa seat clamp was ordered and fitted.

I also have an XT front quick release as I've got massively annoyed with the Hope one fitted to the bike.

    More news!

I shredded the rear Nobby Nic going down potato alley in the peaks, managed to make a tyre boot from two business cards and cable ties to roll back to the car :-(

Two High Rollers ordered and fitted and ready for their first outing this weekend!

The good news is I found the creak! In the process i replaced:
    Bottom Bracket
    Seat Clamp
    Seat
    Seatpost
    Checked every bolt

As it turns out it was the gear cables where they run through the mounts on the frame, so the Clarks cables I never really got on with got replaced with Gore Ride On ones, they weren't cheap but I think they were worth the money. Since the last update the bike has been running pretty well and has only had service items, cassette, chain and grips.

Heres an updated picture as it stood on Friday when I took it round Ladybower.

Great views round Ladybower and bike looks cool to mate and it just goes to show that sometimes it's the simple things that are more troublesome especially when their hard to find :o ..
