Freewheel clean...in one peice?

I have an old freewheel (normandy 6 speed) which I've removed from the hub
I dont want to buy more tools to take it apart to give it a proper clean (it's not worth the cost) so is it wise to just spray degreaser inside and wash it out then dribble a load of oil in there?
Because I'm not taking it apart I'm worried cleaning it and replacing with oil rather than grease (which I would if it was a good freewheel) will do more harm than good.....?
Cheers

I’ve washed freewheels out with white spirit and then run oil through and they’ve been ok. I think the pawl mechanism needs oil rather than grease anyway. I once stripped cleaned and greased a freewheel only to find when I tried it out on the bike the grease was to thick/strong/sticky and made the chain go slack when coasting.0

Ahh thats interesting, cheers
Somebody commented that they used oil but had to apply it twice a day - not your experience?0 -
The bike I use for going to work on has a freewheel (Suntour) and all I do is lean the bike on its side and run some oil through occasionally (about three times a year).0
