For the first time ever i have disc brakes and would appreciate some advice/overview of which type of pads suit differing conditions, is it weather related or terrain etc.

How often or how do you know they are ready to change without damaging disc?

Which are best for summer?

I have Avid Elixir 5's on 185 F and 160 R, which brands of pads are value for ther buck?

Thanks

+1 for superstar kevlars in the summer, sintered in the winter.

Disco pads are also good. http://www.discobrakes.com/

I use sintered all year round. My view is that, living in Wales, it's going to rain quite often, even in summer. The Afan mud is world renowned for wrecking pads, so using softer compound pads in summer would be quite expensive.
