Any thoughts on a good full days riding around there, from say Whiteley Chapel to Allenheads + loops; I`ve got a N`land guidebook (Derek Perdy) but routes fairly short
Nothing carzy hard though as next day I`ll be riding The Hills of North Sportive :)

  • Been riding around Blanchland a bit lately. Not massively technical, and a lot of it's fairly flat (kinda...that's not really true, there's some massive hills! Just not windy technical stuff), but I've really enjoyed it.

From Blanchland you can head up the bridleway along to slayley forest, then cut back further out onto the moor. And from there...although there's a few footpaths joining sections, you can head pretty much anyway you like...potentially along to allendale and beyond, but that could be a long day out..

I generally use Bing maps to check the routes as you can view ordnance survey.

Get a copy of Beyond Hamsterley from Ebay - there are half a dozen rides in the Hexhamshire/Blanchland/Slaley area that you could link up.
