Sram force, I've taken the crank bolts of and greased them and re-tightened it all up but it still creaks, mainly the small ring.
Any solutions?
Next step I was going to strip the chainset and de-grease it and see if that helped.

Any solutions?

  • You have probably got this sorted my now, but if not then FWIW this is how I would approach the problem.

    1. Remove the chain from the chainring then check (by applying light force with fingertips) that the crank rotates freely without excessive drag, roughness or (by applying a range of forces is a range of directions) play.

    2. In the same way, check that pedals rotate freely, and are tight on the cranks.

    3. Check clipless attachment system on pedals for wear, damage, loose components, etc.

    4. Check that cleats on shoes are secure and clean/undamaged.

    5. Check that the cranks/bottom bracket are tightened to around the correct torque (I'm not familiar with your particular chainset, but I'm sure the sram website will have installation and maintainance guides). Remove chainrings and carefully clean mating surfaces on crank and chainrings before rebuilding with a bit of grease to protect against ingress of moisture. Make sure the chainring bolts are good and tight.

    6. Next check/clean/refit other bike components which may be creaking in time with pedaling, starting with seatpost/saddle, bars/stem/headset, hubs.

Hopefully at some point during this process you will identify and resolve the problem, but if you are still having difficulties maybe drop into your lbs for some advice.

    Hope all is sorted.
