Anyone recommend something cheap and cheerful that folds away nicely? Only really need it for gear adjustment, cleaning and for changing chains and cassettes.
Anyone got a reasonable quality one they don't want anymore?

Cheapest one I could find and it does the job, mainly. Can struggle with the winter beast if not gripped at the centre of gravity.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

It was £48 delivered not so long ago but none the less, very good! Actually, I think its exactly the same as the Ribble one.
It can hold my 16kg+ mountain bike, so you shouldn't have any issues with roadie/commuter.0 -

I have one. Not the most substantial admittedly but should be fine for what you said you want it for (gear adjustment, cleaning and for changing chains and cassettes). The good thing is you can easily take it with you anywhere.0 -
I have a swivel attached to the rafters in my garage and just hang the bikes using a loop of rope around the seat post under the saddle when I want to work on them - seems to work a treat and takes up zero space when not in use.FCN 5 belt driven fixie for city bits

Not really an answer to your question, but I have this one:

I have the same. The only problem I've had is that the height clamp didn;t grip enough, no matter how hard I tightened it. I fixed this with a small dab of carbon assembly paste, which means it's now as grippy as a very grippy thing.Bike/Train commuter: Brompton S2L - "Machete"

This one:

and that's a good price for it as well (though that may be because it is out of stock atm).

I've got one of these

which I bought on sale a few years ago for around £70. Does the job nicely, folds away when not needed.Misguided Idealist0 -
I have one of these from Decathlon - cheapest one i could find and works well - although it used to be £29.99, now £39.99 - how's that for inflation!!:

I bought this from Lidl when it was in my store (this was before xmas i think...!). I've used it to build two bikes from parts, as well as gear adjustments etc. Can't compare it to anything else but it's study and pretty cheap. Plus it hasn't fallen apart yet :-)
No idea when it will be back in store though.

I don't have a garage. Can I borrow yours? You may even have some of the tools I need too so I can save a bit more money!--

I have a foldaway hook from Halfords attached to my garden wall. It's perfect for this kind of fettling though you have to get used to balancing the bike. Maybe some velcro straps could help clamp it tighter.

I just stand it upside down in the utility or work on it outside, if I want to change gear I just lift the back wheel and do it!

I've got one of those Draper stands. Just holds the back wheel off the ground so you can mess with gears whilst pedalling. I still want to get a proper workstand as that thing still leaves you crouched down like a garden gnome whilst you're working.0

Yes I use this, and it is the best I have seen.

I bought a hoist from Lidl when their cycling bonanza was on. It cost £5 and allows you to hoist the whole bike horizontally up to a height of your choice. It's not ideal to use to clean your bike as it does it sway, but it's perfect for changing pads, indexing gears and general maintenance.
