There's been a lot of recent posts based on more XC style bikes i.e Cube and focus etc.

I have a short list Cube Ltd Race and the Focus black forest 3.0 XTR.

Both have the Fox F100 fork. How much rough stuff can this fork take. I am getting the bike mainly for a commute and not wanting to buy another bike i want to use it for off road stuff.
I live in Norfolk (flatter then holland) and will be using standard by ways, woodland and any off road, trail i can find.

I just wanna know if the fork/bikes are up to it?

thanks

i have F100's on my Scale

99% of my riding is commuting on trails like you, so they will be fine for that

i also took the bike down the Red route in Healy Nab forrest last week and it was fine

I should think that unless your a pro racer you'll never find the limits of that fork ! Unless your using the bike for stuff its not designed for i.e. free ride/down hill !

It'll happily take a good battering as its a MTB fork, but regular DH or free riding may be pushing the fork a bit too far though as its an XC fork.

I've seen people using f100 on 4x tracks and dirt jumping too. but they did look quite good and were prob a bit more smoother than the average person.

Thanks for your replies. I'm going from a 130mm Marzocchi MX Pro to the Fox. So wasn't quite sure how to compare the two in terms of their use and style.

It sounds as though the Fox are lighter, tighter and better quality which is good but i don't want to ruin them, and no i wont be doing downhill or free ride at all!!

Incidentally the Mx Pro's are for sale, any takers ?? (whoops wrong forum!) :-) 8) :o .

The foxes will do you fine for the kind of riding you mention.

I had a set on an old Epic I used to have, and they (along with the whole bike) got a whole lot of abuse. Probably more than an XC bike should have tolerated to be fair..

You'll certainly notice the difference over the MX Pros (had a set of them too).

I would check the axle to crown length on both forks before you change.

A change of 30mm will steepen the head angle by roughly 1.5 degrees which is a lot and may ruin the geometry of the bike.

One of my mates uses his Anthem X with F100's for downhill stuff at Innerleithen  None of the big jumps and drops but he doesn't shy away from the rough stuff mostly and does a lot more than many do on their AM bikes and the bike is perfectly fine

**disclaimer** he does weigh about 8/9 stone though  **disclaimer**

Have done Ben Nevis, Malaga cable car runs and Jacobs ladder with them and still nothing has gone wrong with them and they are very light too.
