Here I am again... asking for a bit of help. I got some excellent replies when I made a thread about what MTB. However, as the summer is fast approaching and I'm set to do a few triathlons now is the time to take the step and get a road bike.
Went into my local bike store today which stocks Specialized, Bianchi, Felt and a few other brands of road bike. My budget is sub £800 and the general consensus was to go for the Specialized Allez Sport which they sale for £739 giving me some spare cash for pedals etc.
What other models could be suitable that the shop does not stock? It may be possible to travel elsewhere to try or have a look at somthing..

Buy secondhand.
£800 is a useful budget and you could easily pick up a full carbon bike with at least Shimano 105/Campag Veloce/SRAM Rival (or possibly even better spec than that) with a fair set of wheels (at least Mavic Aksium or maybe better) for that sort of money.
You could secure a £1500 bike for £800 secondhand and many such bikes are kept in excellent condition by the owners, who just cannot resist the option of an upgrade!
You will also need to decide whether you want a road bike or a dedicated TT bike for triathlons
Good luck0 -

Thanks.
I was initially intending to go second hand but there is literally nothing in my locality. None of the bike shops have anything my size (im 5'9). I've been checking the local paper weekly to no avail as I have eBay. I bidded on a Trek 2.3 (2010) retails at 1200 and it went for over 800. My max bid was 720.
I'm having a really tough time finding anything thus I'm now likely to buy new.0 -
Hi there - if your comfortable ordering over the net then you could look at these:
http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/gt-gtr-series-2-road-bike-id54660.html - GT GTR series 2 - 105 and carbon fork and stays - £820.
http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/Bike+Shop/Bikes/Road+Bikes/Merlin+Road+Bikes/Merlin+5600+Ltd+Edition+Bike_MERLIN-RB-ALLOY.htm - Merlin offer 10% by joining a free club so £680 for this with some change to upgrade the wheels, you get a 105 grp set and carbon fork - I got one of these and have to say I have no complaints about the bike. Search my posts as someone has a merlin 5600 post.
http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/Bike+Shop/Bikes/Road+Bikes/Dolan+Road+Bikes/Dolan+Preffisio+Road+Bike+-+Sram+Apex_PREFISSIO-APEX-AKSIUM.htm - Again with the discount £720 - Cycling Weekly gave it a good review with the new entry level SRAM that ppl on here seem to say is ok.
Or you could look at Ribble - prob get one of there spec editions with Tiagra (or equiv)

Thanks to all so far.
Food for thought!0 -
I can recommend the KHS Flite 500.
Costs £850 which may be a little over budget but the spec is pretty much that of a bike costing a grand or so.
