2nd hand downhill/freeride bike

As a predominant trail rider Im looking to increase my downhill riding a bit as I live close to some decent runs in Danbury.
Currently on my hardtail Ive been looking at some second hand DH/FR bikes on ebay.
At present Im thinking maybe a specialised big hit or kona stinky or coil as a bike that I can pick up for roughly £700 and have some fun on for a bit.
Does anyone have any suggestions of other models to consider, places to buy from or anything else?
Ive looked at these models mainly cos their resale value appears to be quite low in comparison to their new price.
Thoughts?

All about the aggregation of marginal gains (or marginal losses, depending on who you are!!)

There is a reason DH bikes have low resale value, if they are used as intended they should be abused.
I would get a cheaper new one over a better second hand.
If you can stretch to 1000 you have a couple of heavily knocked down last year models at pauls cycles. Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?0 -
would it be a gross generalisation to say that most dh bikes arent really used as intended and really most dont get the abuse they are designed for thus being a pretty good 2nd hand purchase? All about the aggregation of marginal gains (or marginal losses, depending on who you are!!)0
