Hi, i have upto £500 to spend on a new road bike, i have been looking at carrera vanquish £599 down to £499 www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/serv ... _165710and also the khs flite 300 £549 down to £449. www.khsbikes.co.uk/bikes/khs-flite-300 also i have a decatlon just up the road if any of there bikes are good.

Bike wont be used for racing, just for getting fit through the peak district so weight is fairly important.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I have a B'twin sport 3 from Decthlon. It was £600 but decent bike for the price as it has carbon forks and carbon seat stays. Also it has Campag groupset.
The Decathlon website doesn't list it any more but your local store might still have them.

As I've said before on this forum I'd be looking to buy secondhand at £500.

Once bought a carbon Specialized Roubaix for £430 off eBay which is considerably better than the bikes that you are listing.

Recently bought a Kinesis Racelight off the Bay as a commuter/winter/training bike - immaculate, full Veloce compact groupset (important for the Peak District!) and Fulcrum 5 wheels. Absolute bargain at £460 as it's virtually new in condition. Owner was having to give up cycling due to long-term injury.

Kinesis are fine bikes but unfashionable to ordinary buyers - many keen cyclists have them as a winter roadie.

If you have some idea of what you are looking for then you can get a lot of bike for your money secondhand!

Colnago Primavera for the price of a new Carrera

Now let me think where I'd spend my £500???????? Ah the Colnago just shades it (by a million miles!)
