Reconditioning wheels post-spill

A cheeky gust of wind pushed me sideways into a fairly substantial raised kerb yesterday, giving both my wheels a bit of a scrape (as well as my bar tape, left forarm and shin ). It's churned the metal up which is irritating the brake pads when braking and needs taking back down. Is sandpaper/a fine file the best way to go about taking them down? As far as I can tell that's all the repair it'll need - the tyre walls seem fine and both wheels still spin true.

ive used wet and dry paperin the past and it will sort the problem out. you must use a flat block to wrap the sandpaper around to maintain a flat surface. Just take the high spots out, the gouged bits wont cause any problems unless its really bad, you dont want to thin the rim.0
