Anyone know whether DT rims need drilling to take a Stan's rim strip? Got the LBS to set up the first set as I didn't know what I was doing and as a result can't remember.

    I guess they would.

Stans uses a Schrader valve, and almost certainly DT rims will be Presta.

Although for the money it should be a direct fit.........
  • Not all Stan's strips have Schrader valves - the ones I've got on my existing rims are Presta valved. For clarification, some rims need the tyre-side valve hole enlarging for the rim strip to seat correctly.

Stan's Olympic valves are (or at least, the ones I have) Presta. My Flow rims are drilled to match.

So in essence, you've answered your own question.

Depending on which strips you have, and depending on which rims you have, you may/may not need to drill the rims.

I thought Stans strips were a rip off, I used Specialized Blue Tape and Roval valves to convert my DT Swiss wheels.
  • To clarify, I have a wheel being rebuilt with a replacement DT rim (having badly dented the original). I have a Stan's Presta rim strip from the old wheel.

Does anyone know whether I will need to drill the rim when I get the wheel back from the LBS?
